Withdrawal
is an upcoming feature film written and directed by Aaron Strand. Inspired by his experience as an addict over 10 years ago, the film tells the raw, unflinching story of a young singer-songwriter and her rebellious boyfriend who must withdrawal from heroin to keep her conservative parents from sending her to rehab. It's a heartwrenching yet humorous portrait of love set against the modern opioid epidemic.
Inspired by True Events…
Withdrawal is a classical romance told through the gritty lens of indie DV filmmaking. Shot on location in Athens, GA, it showcases local talent from Atlanta and Athens, both on and off-camera, capturing the raw essence of love, addiction, and artistic collaboration.
Status
Withdrawal is having it’s World Premiere at the prestigious Atlanta Film Festival on April 30th!
Director’s Statement
In 2013, I crawled back to my hometown of Athens, Georgia as just another statistic of the opioid epidemic.
As I got sober, I watched countless films about addiction hoping to find some solace that I wasn’t alone.
Withdrawal is the culmination of eleven years of work that began during those hard months when life seemed to stop making sense. It has been an incredible honor to tell this story and it is my deepest hope that it can do for others what those films did for me.
